The Foundation hosts three book clubs, for youth ages 6-15. The purpose of our Book Club program is to promote literacy within the youth of the Los Angeles community. Each age group meets once a week to discuss their current book. The discussions are informal with the focal point being the likes and dislikes of that week’s reading and how they can relate to the characters and what they’re experiencing in the book.

2017 – 2018 Book Club

We did it!

Our 2017-2018 Book Club wrapped with our end-of-year party at Denny’s Restaurant. Check out our Facebook Page for photos of our party.

This year we had a great time reading “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” and “Maniac Magee.” Book Club members also had the opportunity to attend two film screenings, “Ferdinand” and “A Wrinkle In Time.” We even got a special tour of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.  This summer, we are continuing our reading adventures with “Iggie’s House” to “Ghost Town at Sundown.”

About Book Club

The Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Blazers Youth Organization, sponsors an after school Book Club, for boys and girls, 10-14 years of age.

The purpose of this group is to provide students with an opportunity to read positive books in an informal setting while improving their reading skills.

The Book Club usually begins in the Fall and runs through to the end of the school year, with a break in December between books.
